In the spirit of giving back, and our desire to support local businesses and artists, we are doing an artist spotlight series. We will be showcasing a new artist each day for the next 31 days. Today’s artist is Khoa Ho, a designer from California.
Khoa Ho is a very recent college graduate (BFA in Graphic Design) trying to figure out what he’s doing in life other than find a job.
Question: How did you get into design?
Khoa’s Answer: I’ve never done any real design in my life until one day I wrote a letter to my university stating that I wanted to get into the art (design) program. I took a leap of faith and they accepted. So my journey began. Like Bilbo Baggins.
Question: Where are you from, where did you go to school?
Khoa’s Answer: I was born in Vietnam. I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Went to the University of Louisville…GO CARDS! Now I nest in California.
Question: What are your tools of the trade?
Khoa’s Answer: Paper and pencil is always good. Digitally I mainly use Photoshop and Illustrator with a sprinkle of Indesign here and there if necessary.
Question: What websites do you go to for design inspiration?
Khoa’s Answer: I don’t really have any main websites that I go to really. Just randomly browsing and looking at different works from all aspects of art really helps me. Also depends on what I’m working on. Google does wonders though.
Question: What is your favorite movie, band, and artist?
Khoa’s Answer: Favorite movies are The Dark Knight and Forrest Gump. Bands are Linkin Park and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Artists would be Banksy, Ken Taylor and Olly Moss.
Question: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Khoa’s Answer: Space. I’d love to see the Earth from up there. Go check out all the other planets. Give Pluto some love. Then maybe France or anywhere in Europe.
Question: When you’re not designing, what do you like to do?
Khoa’s Answer: Watch movies, play guitar, video games, watch tv, daydream about random things.
Question: If you could meet anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Khoa’s Answer: My grandfather because I never got to meet him. I’ve only seen a few pictures of him.
Question: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in design?
Khoa’s Answer: To not listen to any of my advice cause I’m terrible at it.
